Communications Station Technical Services
- Satellite Earth Station Communication Systems – Perform all operational configurations, adjustments and planning for a variety of Radio Frequency (RF) communications equipment for various frequency bands including UHF, SHF (Commercial and Military) and EHF communications systems.
- Earth Terminal Communication Systems – Configure, operate and maintain a wide assortment of satellite communication baseband equipment including modems, multiplexers and cryptographic equipment.
- Terrestrial Communications Systems – Configure, operate and maintain various data communications equipment or long haul communications equipment that digitally connects the Earth Terminal communications equipment to other bases, data nodes, commercial switches or network operation centers. Efforts supporting terrestrial communication systems also include all in-house wiring/cabling, testing and circuit level documentation.
- Communications Security - Responsible for the proper handling, security, management, operator maintenance, and accounting of communication security (COMSEC) material, information, equipment, and STE/STU-III telephone equipment.
- Communications Management – Performs overall system management and produces detailed communications system inter-connections between RF, baseband, cryptographic and terrestrial systems.
- Monitor and Control Equipment – Operates and Maintains a variety of Communication System Monitor & Control (M&C) equipment. Typical M&C equipment is PC based and networked to provide up the chain of command situational awareness. Therefore, operation and maintenance activities include all requirements with regard to system Information Assurance (IA) Security and IA Management including system patches, upgrades, firewalls and intrusion detection systems.
- Satellite Earth Station Maintenance – Perform all preventive and corrective (demand) maintenance on all RF, baseband and terrestrial communications equipment. Troubleshoot faulty equipment in accordance with best engineering practices using applicable documentation, various test equipment and years of maintenance experience. Preventive Maintenance also includes preservation and repair of antennas, towers and platforms used to support communications equipment.
- Technical Refresh Support - Review project objectives and assign necessary personnel resources to support systems [equipment and software] upgrades, installation, and training. Provide reviews and technical analysis of the system upgrades for operational soundness, functionality and compatibility with existing systems and equipment. Develop and provide training upon integration of new system or software.
